Human Resource Business Partner – Carreras Limited (Kingston)

Purpose Statement:

The incumbent will be a member of the Carreras Leadership Team reporting to the Managing Director with responsibility for planning, directing and coordinating all activities in the Human Resources department to reach maximum levels of employee productivity and creativity throughout the workplace. The role is critical in the execution of all people initiatives, working in collaboration with an above-market team to drive the HR agenda. The incumbent will also be required to provide excellent internal customer support, and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement in accordance with Carreras and British American Tobacco (BAT) systems and best practice.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • The ability to understand business goals and recommend new approaches,policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity and development of HR within the company
  • The ability to successfully monitor the ‘pulse’ of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement with a true hands on approach
  • Experience with a rapidly changing and dynamic work environment as well as working in a matrix structure
  • Success in creating and driving effective development, employee relations, retention and reward programs
  • Comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverable along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Able to maintain a harmonious Industrial Relations climate
  • Able to provide coaching and mentorship at a management level

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent along with relevant subject matter professional competencies:

  • A Master’s Degree or MBA in HRM preferred
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience in Human Resources Management with at least three (3) years in a senior management position
  • Sound knowledge of the Jamaican labour laws and relevant industrial relation matters
  • Sound knowledge of Strategic HR
  • Excellent negotiating, collaboration and influencing skills
